UBCO Climate Action Pledge

Support UBC Okanagan’s Climate Action Plan 2030 by committing to simple, tangible actions that help reduce emissions related to food, waste, and commuting. Every action counts — and your personal pledge will contribute to campus-wide sustainability efforts.

How to Pledge

Email us at sustainability.ubco@ubc.ca with your personal pledge selections. Let us know:

  • Your connection to UBC Okanagan (e.g., Faculty, Staff, Student, Other)
  • Your faculty / administrative unit / academic discipline (optional)
  • Which actions from the lists below you commit to — feel free to copy/paste your choices in the email!

Food Systems – Help Reduce Emissions from Food Choices

Choose one or more actions:

  • I will choose one day a week to not eat meat
  • I will reduce my beef consumption and replace it with chicken or fish
  • I will substitute my milk and cheese for a non-dairy option
  • I will buy local food — from a farmers market or direct from the grower, where possible
  • I will commit to making my next family/friend/colleague dinner plant-based
  • I will bring my own bags to the store when getting groceries

Waste & Materials – Help Reduce Waste on Campus

Choose one or more actions:

  • I will make informed purchases (less packaging, only what I need)
  • I will bring reusable containers, cups, and utensils to campus
  • I will familiarize myself with current campus waste processes (see UBCO Recyclepedia)
  • I will sort my materials for disposal correctly
  • I will share my waste sorting knowledge with friends and colleagues.

Commuting – Help Reduce Transportation Emissions

Choose one or more actions:

  • I will take transit or bike to campus instead of driving alone two days a week
  • I will coordinate a carpool with coworkers or friends at least one day a week
  • I will encourage friends or colleagues to use transit, bike, or carpool
  • I will try the shared SPIN bikes on campus to run errands or commute.

Thank you for taking action!

Your commitment contributes to building a more sustainable UBC Okanagan.
