CULTURE & EXPERIENCE
The Learning Garden
The Learning Garden is a model school garden dedicated to promoting the principles of sustainable environmental practice, responsible stewardship of nature and interdisciplinary learning and knowledge. The garden was designed and built in 2006 by a group of Environmental Education students and Dr. Veronica Gaylie, education professor, supported by local businesses and two grants from the TD Canada Trust Foundation. It is used to educate Okanagan middle-school students about the benefits and joys of growing a garden.
Located between the Arts building and Science building is a living statue. “Decomposition” by D. Johnson, erected in 2010, has composting from cafeteria, term papers, lichens, peat moss and more. It also features a telescope.
