Green Building Design Guidelines
The Green Buildings Design Guidelines, outlined in Section 4 of the UBC Okanagan Design Guidelines, provide comprehensive direction for integrating sustainability into building design, construction and renovation across campus.
The guidelines support UBC Okanagan’s commitment to a net-positive, low-carbon and climate-resilient future. It includes performance goals and design strategies related to:
- LEED® and other certification pathways
- Energy efficiency and carbon reduction
- Rainwater management and green infrastructure
- Low embodied carbon materials and waste recovery
- Water conservation, air quality and occupant wellbeing
- Climate-adaptive and biodiversity-conscious design
Required for all major capital projects, these guidelines align with the Whole Systems Infrastructure Plan and are intended for architects, engineers, planners and project teams working on UBCO facilities.
