UBC Okanagan food services provider, Aramark supports sustainability and is Going Green. They use environmentally friendly green chemicals, products, and biodegradable garbage bags that decompose in 60 days. Aramark has an aggressive recycling program for all bottles, glass, plastic, metal, and cardboard. In the spirit of social responsibility, the money from recycling pop bottles and cans is donated to Pathways Kelowna and is used to benefit the greater community
Aramark has also developed a partnership with the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market and continues to increase the amount of produce and items purchased for use in campus eateries local. All the herbs used at Aramark are grown on campus and fertilized with the high-grade compost produced at UBC Okanagan. The Green Bean Coffee House located on the main floor of University Centre provides locally grown food and organic coffee.
